Blog #3: Chapter 5- Using Tools to Support Connected Learning

In chapter five, it briefly talks about weblogs- also and shortly known as blogs. Blogs are the first thing I picture in my head when I think of online learning communities. I think it is because I find it the most efficient way to write about and keep track of your research. Blogs are used for several different reasons such as entertainment (pictures and videos), therapy (venting and ranting), and more. They can be designed in countless ways, but are essentially set up as posts with dates and times stamped on them. They are beneficial because not only can you write or read them, but others can post comments and give their feedback. That is how conversations are started and experiences are shared. This can probably work out in my goal occupation as an occupational therapist because I can learn different ways to treat patients or even talk to patients about exercises and more. "Your ideas and experiences with learning, leading, and teaching may significantly contribute to a more accomplished global practice" (Nussbaum-Beach 77).
One of the tools involved that support connected learning is Google Documents. I have used this website/application numerous times in my life and it is proven to be so helpful. Google Docs, for short, "is another web-based document sharing tool" (Nussbaum-Beach 84). You can use this to your advantage because you do not need to access this document from only your laptop or computer. You can pull it up at the library, your friend's computer, and download the app on your phone. Just by logging into Google, you can see your progress. There are options to let other people see and share the document. You can allow them to edit it, also. You can see who is viewing it in real time. This can support anyone's career because others can add on, edit, and collaborate on the document with you.

I like how you put in that blogs are also used as entertainment and therapy for people to vent on. I have also used Google Docs for many group assignments. Along with many other assignments because you can have your assignment anywhere you go just by logging into your account. I can also use blogs in my future business career so I can stay updated with business blogs.
ReplyDeleteDo you think you would start your own blog in the future for your profession?
Google Docs is an extremely important tool, especially for college students! You can access it from any computer, so it is easier to complete work. It also helps when printing at the school, because you do not have to worry about making sure you email yourself your work. It is also helpful because it helps students collaborate on group work at the same time and work together. The working together aspect is really helpful for a future career because it helps students work together and bounce ideas off each other which can be extremely helpful in the work place.
