Good/Bad Website Smackdown
The two examples of websites are good/bad that I used are water brands, Aquafina and Poland Spring. Aquafina essentially has the same look on a phone as it does when you would log on to the computer. Although Poland Spring does, as well, Aquafina is more minimalistic than the latter. Aquafina’s website design is more simple while Poland Spring’s home page is already three scrolls long. Aquafina provides classic typography and maintains the blue and white color scheme well without being overwhelming. Pictures appear in a “fade-in” and “pop in” effect, which create a unique way of displaying their images.
As
if Poland Spring’s page wasn’t long enough, when you click on the menu, it
lists a whole long list of topics to click on. Although this may be helpful on what
someone specifically might be looking for, it is pretty lengthy and intense. There
are pictures present in every topic; however, their text constantly overpowers
everything on their page.
Hey Abby! I agree with you about Poland Spring's website--the pages are way too long and have too much information in one place that even if you did know exactly what information you were looking for, it would still be frustrating to have to scan through all of that to try and find it. Aquafina's website is simpler and more interactive, while still providing all of their necessary information. Interesting choice of examples, maybe next time link the sites to your post for extra ease for your readers :)
ReplyDeleteHi Abby! I enjoyed reading about your good and bad websites. I agree with you that Poland Spring is a bad website and Aquafina is a good website. When individuals are going to read a website, they usually are looking for the simplest and most concise information, so they do not have to do much work to find their answer. I feel like if people went on Poland Springs website first, they would be more likely to close it down and find another one where the information was much easier to find.
ReplyDeleteAbby, I think your choices for this smackdown are interesting, but I can clearly see why you chose these two to compare. The Poland Springs was a good example for a bad site due to the fact that its just so crowded and it may be overwhelming to a user and they will end up leaving that site for another. On the other hand I can see why you chose Aquafina as your good example because the site was very user-friendly and also was interactive which makes the site more interesting to the user and possible customer.
